The 2026 Toyota RAV4 redesign completely redefines what you can expect from a compact SUV. Rather than sticking to the past, Toyota engineers introduce new style options (Core, Rugged, and Sport inspirations), tune the all-hybrid engines for greater responsiveness, and upgrade the technology across all trim levels, including the new 10.5-inch central touchscreen. Our team at Toyota of Irving can't wait to test-drive the new 2026 RAV4 at our dealership, so let's take a digital tour first.
To begin, the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 does away with gas-only engines. Instead, no matter your choice of new Toyota RAV4 for sale, you'll get electrified potency. Depending on your trim, you'll have the choice between a hybrid powertrain or a plug-in hybrid setup.
However, the standard HEV powertrain now also comes with FWD, while the PHEV powertrain can be configured on four trim levels (up from two).

The 2026 RAV4 has dropped all gas powertrains, instead offering a 226-horsepower hybrid and 320-horsepower plug-in hybrid setup. These are more diverse than last year, with HEV FWD now possible, and the PHEV coming with Woodland and GR SPORT grades.
Let's take a step back from the hood and see how Toyota engineers upgraded the exterior of the RAV4. Joining a palette of classic colors (such as Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Midnight Black Metallic, Ruby Flare Pearl, and Blueprint) are Meteor Shower, Everest, and Storm Cloud. Woodland drivers get the all-new Urban Rock paint.
Depending on your choice of Toyota RAV4 trim levels, you'll be wowed by one of three distinct styles:

The 2026 RAV4 comes in seven trims, divided into three styles – Core, Rugged, and Sport. There are also four new colors to try through our build tool.
What about what's changed inside the Toyota RAV4 2026 model? Perhaps the first thing you'll notice as you sit behind the wheel is the new and improved central console. A standard 10.5-inch touchscreen (up from 8 inches) welcomes you to an enhanced multimedia selection.
Powered by the Arene software development kit, the 2026 Toyota RAV4 redesign is our first glimpse at software-defined vehicles, upgrading safety, security, and connectivity. You'll notice a seamless, modern UI with tactile or touchscreen navigation, giving you a quick, snappy response on each command. A configurable homescreen provides easy access to all the apps you need to make your commute enjoyable.
Wireless Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™ is standard as well, providing seamless connectivity on every RAV4. The 2026 iteration will also feature the Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 system, arriving with state-of-the-art sensor technology and advanced warning systems.
Outside of the touchscreen, you're still getting other luxuries. A Head-Up Display is available for the Limited and XSE grades, while a JBL® premium audio system crafts the ambience on select grades. Available SofTex seating is easy to clean and comfortable. The Woodland is a remarkably cozy, world-ready model, thanks to its vibrant cabin, with uniquely patterned perforated soft-touch door and dash panels. The XSE introduces Ultrasuede seating for an upscale feel. Alternatively, the GR SPORT has microsuede seating to create a feeling of being in a high-performance cockpit (further emboldened with paddle shifters and aluminum sport pedals).

The standout upgrades belong to the multimedia console, with a larger touchscreen display and better software functionality. However, all trims have seen improvements to comfort and convenience that make them feel uniquely sixth-generation.
As we've discussed, the RAV4 sixth-generation model was introduced with the 2026 RAV4 redesign. The RAV4, though, has been one of the most popular cars in America for quite some time – since its debut in 1996. So, if you're considering a used model or are curious about the SUV's evolution, here's a brief look back at three RAV4 previous generations:
Taking the RAV4 to new heights, the third-generation model brought with it a new V-6, giving the SUV previously unseen levels of power. The exterior design also set the tone for every RAV4 that followed (including the RAV4 sixth-generation design) by restyling the SUV with sleeker body lines.
While it refined the third-generation model's design with even sharper looks, the fourth-generation RAV4 is especially noteworthy because it introduced us to the RAV4 Hybrid. Gas-only options were still offered, but the first-ever RAV4 hybrid proved that hybrid efficiency in a compact SUV is a winning formula.
Upgrading the RAV4 with more power, more modern features, and a still-trendy interior and exterior design, the fifth-generation model remains an immensely popular SUV for many reasons, one of which is that it introduced the first RAV4 plug-in hybrid (known then as the "RAV4 Prime"), creating the foundation for the RAV4 sixth-generation hybrid lineup.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 is expected to be available in late 2025 or early 2026. While Toyota has not given an exact date for the RAV4, they have teased that it is coming out later this year, alongside an announcement of a new and improved multimedia console. We also expect all seven trims to be released simultaneously, allowing drivers to explore Core, Rugged, and Sport designs.
This year marks the introduction of the sixth-generation RAV4, with nearly everything revamped. Every model is electrified, with either hybrid or plug-in hybrid functionality. You'll enjoy improved horsepower figures across the board, along with a brand-new exterior style featuring a sleek, paint-matched MATRIX or split grille – depending on if you choose a Core, Rugged, or Sport design. Please contact us with any other questions!
The 2026 RAV4 introduces the GR SPORT as the most luxurious member of the Sport Design lineup, a more track-ready equivalent to the Limited level. The LE, SE, and XLE will also be available with a FWD hybrid powertrain, adding more configurations to the 2025 levels. The Woodland trim is also available as either a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, a unique feature for 2026.

So glad we were able to deal with Carlos V. He was kind, courteous, and knowledgeable. We upgraded my wife’s RAV4 and when I’m ready to upgrade my Tacoma, I’ll go back just to deal with him. Great experience, thank you Carlos V!
