To keep your Toyota’s brakes functioning at optimal performance, routine maintenance is critical. The first step is a brake system inspection, in which our certified Toyota technicians examine the components of your system. We can identify any underlying issues and discuss the repair and/or replacement options with you. This is the key to healthy brakes that stop your vehicle when you need them to.
Your brake pads close around the brake rotors when you step on the brakes, causing the necessary friction to slow your vehicle to a stop. Eventually, they wear down too thin that their efficacy in creating such friction will be compromised. You may notice that it takes a greater stopping distance with which to slow your Toyota. When this happens, the only option is to have your brake pads replaced, which we can do for you within our service department.
Similar to your brake pads, the brake rotors will also wear down over time due to the friction caused. Unlike the brake pads, however, the brake rotors may be able to be resurfaced. This involves smoothing out the metallic surface so they can continue to be used. However, there is a minimum thickness requirement for this service, so we’ll need to replace the brake rotors for you if they are too thin.
Often neglected but very important to the functionality of your brakes is your brake fluid. It provides pressure to the rest of the braking system after you depress the brake pedal. It degrades over time and can pick up contaminants and metallic particulates from within the system. If residue is allowed to build up, it could wreak havoc on your brakes. Be sure to have your brake fluid exchanged as per your owner’s manual.
If you have noticed a softness in your brake pedal, this is a key indicator that there is an issue with your braking system.
